For Example Paradoxes, I posted this on Facebook:

Poll: What are the paradoxes of your life? I'm teaching a this to my students tomorrow and would like to give them some real-life examples besides my ole standbys (i.e. most teenage women love and hate their mothers at the same time.)

I'm living independently, yet still depend on others to provide me with necessities.

This is a lame one but that's what you get at 6:00am: I enjoy chilling out to tv in the evening and have it on sometimes during the day to keep me company. I think it keeps me in touch with the world. But I think we should get rid of it.

  6. I fall asleep while watching tv in the living room, but if the tv is on in the bedroom, I can't get to sleep.

My paradox is that I want to feed every homeless person I see, yet I'm irritated by people who don't bother taking care of themselves.

And that sometimes I have an urge to eat popcorn while I'm on my stair-climber at home.

It appears I am quite late to the part (fashionably late), but I'll contribute regardless. My roommate Rob has a tough time dating because his self-deprecating/self-defeating id won't let him be attracted to any woman who is attracted to him. His subconscious decides that no woman attracted to a guy like him is suitable for him. (Isn't he lucky to have a friend like me to point out all his flaws :D)

Since my mom's anuerisms, her short-term memory is pretty poor, but her long-term is intact, so she remembers when she used to have a great short term memory.

Many artists want to cheat the system and legitimately rise to the top of it.
For example, Joyce would've killed a baby for a good review, yet wanted to revolutionize his craft.

A musician might want a grammy while still wanting to maintain a rebel image.

Even better-- a rapper might want street cred while flashing diamonds...
